  • Glasply members' MMSI numbers listing

A few years ago Sparkotic (whatever happened to him anyway....?) had the idea that we could post our individual MMSI numbers here on the forum so other Glasplygians could program their DSC-equipped radios with any of them that they wished so they would be able to tell if that member were out on the water nearby. If so, they could even hail them privately using the VHF radio!

Here is a link to a PowerPoint demonstration of this handy feature created by Doug Miller of Milltech Marine in Port Orchard who gave Rendezvous attendees a very helpful and informative session on AIS features this past summer. This link will show some of the useful features of DSC radios and what you can do with them (besides sending automated distress messages), such as privately hailing friends:

    http://www.milltechmarine.com/custom...n_2014-SBS.pdf

So, I am creating this thread as a Sticky in the "Members' Boats" forum so we can post our individual MMSI numbers here, if one so desires. Include your MMSI number, boat name or forum username, and boat description. I'll start:

    1. 338121139 Cardinal 21-foot Cuddy/Hardtop "Overnighter" (Binford)
    2. 338204718 Glasply Marauder 22-foot Cuddy/Hardtop "Overnighter" (jbs)

You must have be reading my mind. I just got my number on Saturday, and was wondering if my fellow Glasply owners had already done this. These newer radio's do all sorts of things. Gonna have to read up on how to operate all the new toys. Great idea.

Mr. Smee originally registered that MMSI number. The radio remains programmed with that number and he transferred the registration online over to me. If JBS got his own, then you should log in to the website, Nova, and deactivate yours.

BoatUS.com has a good explanation of the DSC system on registering/editing/deleting MMSI numbers.
            Molly's number: 338131003
The cruise liner QE2 moves only six inches for each gallon of diesel fuel that it burns.

1982 28' Long Cabin "Molly Brown" sweating through a long hot summer. Massive California forest fires fill our sky with smoke. SUP paddlers and kayakers transit the harbor with abandon, thinking they have the right of way over all boats.

I was going to ask you nova if you had a number with the boat, but got sidetracked. All good!

We would need a Satcom radio in order to communicate with you Socal.

                          Happy New Year, Glasplygians.

I just bought a new VHF, and figured I should get a new MMSI number to go along with it (the old one was transferred to Binford). So, even though I'm out of range (like Socal), please add 338206908 to the registry for Oberon.

MMSI count now at six. Mr. Smee, Binford, SoCal, captnH, jbs, and skunked.
Tim, do you want to make a separate forum page to list the MMSI's? We would have to be able to write over/add to the base page as new numbers are submitted.
