Thread: My "new" Blue Glasply 19 hardtop

    Those engines were praised for what power they produced for their size and when they were new I think they were considered good engines. It's just once they get a thousand hours or so on them that the problems arise.

    But that can be said about a lot of marine motors.

    Very true, but I was referring to a couple of design issues specific to the 470, namely the lack of a belt-driven alternator (easily upgraded), borderline undersized heat exchanger (make sure it's clean or upsized), and the cam-driven coolant pump (which will be the problem after 1,000 or so hours).

    All good info!!

    BTW I'm taking the boat up to the mechanic on Wednesday, then the fun (?) starts,he says it will take two days all in all....

    When a boat mechanic says it'll take 2 days, you can figure on at least 4!

    Cool

    I like mine despite not spending much time on the water. When it runs, it runs well and when it doesn't is is usually due to no fault of it's own. 38 year old boat and I found some stuff that was worn out.

    Ok we have an update. There have been a lot of delays getting parts and the prices for new ones was so incredibly high that I have opted for used stuff, But now it is all here and: The engine is in the boat and it is being put together for test drive on dry land. should happen this week, I'm getting excited!

    BTW the transom was perfect no dry rot at all no softness
