Hello, new member here. (Steve) Delivering this new to me, one owner, boat shed kept boat next week.
Twin 170hp Volvo tam40b 170 HP on V drives. They report a pretty efficient 15 knot cruise at 9 usgpm

Anyone know what model this 28 is? Long cabin? Mid cabin?

Welcome aboard! You've got an LC (Long Cabin) there. That black stripe just above the GlasPly insignia on the side is blurry, but usually says something like 2881 LC. If you can post a picture of your HIN, we keep a registry of those and we can tell you a lot about your vessel from that number.

really stoked to take on stewardship of this one owner unicorn. Being under a shed it’s entire life, and one owner since new is very cool. The gel coat still shines. The P.O. Did not have any love of electronics, it seems, so the interior and fly bridge don’t have the death of a thousand cuts. (I am much the same way, made it to Haida Gwaii without ever turning on the GPS, just used navionics on my phone) The interior too is original 1981……..think tangerine velour……….

You took this beauty to Haida Gwaii!!!??? That is OUTSTANDING!! Bucket list!! Yes, we want to see photo's and HIN. There's quite a few 28's around, but as mine is, "death by a thousand cuts" is fairly normal for most, not all, of us!
As some of us are "gearheads" performance stats are a welcome also. I think you'll find some absolutely amazingly talented forum members on this site.

it was a few boats ago I did Haida Gwaii, on a 45 foot trawler. The electronics on that one were mighty primitive too. That said I would take the 28 up there with no reservation I expect. I have still to do the delivery. (Next week) as far as numbers are concerned, I don’t have any, other that the owners indication that it cruises nicely at 15 knots on plane, and will do 28 at wot. 28 seems high for that boat and HP, but if they have not ladened it down with a bunch of weight? Given the 3600 rpm red line for 28, that 15 knot cruise would be at about 1928 rpm. I guess I will find out next week.

The available pics at present are not great, but I will be delighted to take and share some. Also performance and tweaking to get the best speed per litre of fuel is a hobby, so love to be part of a bigger database here. I play with every boat! I recently put a giant 32” wide planing plate on my 150 Mercury outboard, on a 25’ Bertram. (Like a Giant version of those outboard hydrofoils on the cavitation plate) Lowest planing speed dropped from 18 knots down to 9 knots. In rough water you could slow right down, and still be firmly on plane. Love this stuff! Yes a 9’ whaler, with an old wedge 9.9 Evenrude. Can’t imagine putting that on a 9’ whaler while dancing around the swim grid!
