  • It's the end of an era....

Well, I've gone and done it now!

Mrs. Binford and I have purchased a slow boat. It's a 1980 CHB Europa 34 trawler with a single Ford Lehman diesel inboard.

I got tired of spilling my coffee underway, even when sipping from a covered travel mug! Now I will finally be able to run my boat sipping coffee from an open porcelain mug while wearing house slippers.

As I am unwilling to maintain too many boats (see below), this means the Cardinal will now be offered up for sale. Details forthcoming in the Boats for Sale section of the forum. I will offer her up to my fellow Glasplygians first before announcing the sale to the unwashed masses on Craigslist and such.

As for my maintaining "too many boats" (as if that is such a thing!), I still have the 16-footer JV Junior that I intend to keep, so you can't boot me out of the Glasply club all together, quite yet anyway. (Not only that, but I am looking at the possibility of picking up a 17-foot Glasply runabout, in which case JV Junior would also be put up for sale. So yeah, I still suffer from Glasply disease! Don't worry about me!)

The Cardinal has been a great boat to us for the past 7 years. She was in fantastic shape when we acquired her from Mr. Smee in 2015 and she has been kept up and even improved upon since. If anyone is interested, shoot me a PM. Otherwise I'll get a posting in the For Sale section here shortly.

We do plan to attend this year's Rendezvous, but will be in the trawler so quite possibly we may be relegated to a distant slip as penance.... See you all there!

I understand "end of an era" very well. Sold my 28 and now cruising the country in my new to me 2003 Holiday Rambler Navigator 43' 500hp Cummins. Last year we did about 14k miles with our F350 and 32' fifth wheel trailer but decided a diesel pusher was the way to go for us. Much happier now. Oh, I understand drinking coffee in "open porcelain mug" now very well.

That's my job now that I'm retired. SOLD to a great new owner. Will see them at the 2023 rendezvous.

Awesome new adventures for you now, Bill! Looking forward to seeing you again at the Rendezvous.

Oh, and that 43’ diesel pusher is just *dying* to tow a 21’ Glasply Weekender behind it. You know that, right?

I read your posts to Linda and she said if you are wishing I buy your 21' weekender she thinks you'll die with that wish before it happens. Can you just picture me backing down a boat ramp and launching that boat? 33,000 pounds trying to come up the ramp pulling your boat?

Me Binford, you know what they say, it isn’t true without any pictures! I am excited for you, as long as I’ve known you this was your dream. Congratulations on the new boat and even though it’s not a glasply I’m sure there is room on the back for a glasply dinghy!

Bill, you know there's a nice place at Cap Sante to park your RV and Linda could make that wonderful Peach Pie. Tim it will be awesome to see your new vessel. Look forward to seeing all of you again.

I've got very mixed feelings about this, but the Cardinal is now on Craigslist....

And in the For Sale forum here as well, of course!

The Cardinal has found a new home. He’s apparently been a lurker here, but may officially register now. I think he will be taking very good care of her so she’s in good hands. Hard to see her go though….
